Understanding IHG Merlin and the IHG Colleague Systems Around It
IHG Merlin is a name current and former hotel colleagues still encounter across the IHG Hotels & Resorts employee and hotel-operations ecosystem. But searching for “IHG Merlin” no longer points to one simple task.
Current IHG resources connect the Merlin name with several different colleague workflows. IHG’s Employee Room Benefit page still refers directly to a Merlin ID when colleagues link their IHG One Rewards membership for employee-rate access. IHG Careers tells colleagues with MyHR access to use MyHR when applying for internal positions, while other IHG career material references Merlin for colleague referrals. IHG learning resources also refer to IHG myLearning, IHG University and IHG People Tools.
That means the useful question is no longer simply:
“Where is the IHG Merlin login?”
A better question is:
“Which IHG colleague system do I actually need for the task I am trying to complete?”
This independent publication maps those systems and explains their relationships without pretending to be an IHG login portal.
What Does “IHG Merlin” Mean Today?
IHG’s own current web presence confirms that the Merlin terminology remains active.
For example, its Employee Room Benefit Programme says colleagues who have linked their IHG One Rewards number to their Merlin ID can access the employee room benefit. Colleagues who already have a Merlin ID but have not completed the Rewards-linking step are given a separate path to do so.
IHG’s Procurement site also continues to carry IHG Merlin branding and distinguishes between hotel-user and supplier access.
At the same time, some colleague tasks now clearly sit in other named environments.
For internal jobs, IHG tells colleagues who have MyHR access to sign into that system and select the Current Jobs function.
For learning and development, IHG describes IHG University, IHG People Tools and IHG myLearning as part of its learning ecosystem.
So “Merlin” is best understood as part of a broader IHG colleague and hotel technology environment rather than as a synonym for every HR function.
Merlin ID and IHG One Rewards Are Different Identities
One of the most useful distinctions for colleagues involves the employee hotel benefit.
IHG says eligible colleagues need an IHG One Rewards membership number for the Employee Room Benefit Programme. If that Rewards number has already been linked to the colleague’s Merlin ID—or a manager has activated the employee benefit through Loyalty Connect—the colleague can proceed to employee-rate booking.
These identifiers therefore serve different purposes.
Merlin ID: associated with the colleague/hotel-side IHG environment.
IHG One Rewards membership: associated with the loyalty and reservation environment.
The employee travel workflow connects them.

Employee Room Benefits
IHG maintains a dedicated Employee Room Benefit Programme page for qualifying people in what it describes as the IHG System.
The eligibility language includes employees of IHG, its subsidiaries and affiliates, as well as certain employees working at hotels that are owned, managed or franchised by IHG or related entities. Eligibility still depends on the programme rules.
IHG says employee-rate reservations must be made online or through its mobile app rather than through the reservation call center.
This is a hotel-booking task, not an HR login task.
IHG One Pass
IHG also currently operates IHG One Pass, which it describes as an exclusive colleague rewards programme for IHG colleagues and their eligible friends and family.
The current programme page directs users to make bookings through IHG.com or the IHG One Rewards app using their One Rewards credentials. It also sets separate rules covering colleague-linked pass holders, eligible rates, annual night limits and conduct.
Because both employee travel and One Pass touch hotel discounts, the names can appear interchangeable to searchers.
They should not be treated as automatically identical.
This publication distinguishes what IHG currently documents for each programme rather than merging the terminology.
MyHR Is Important for Internal Careers
Another common source of confusion is the relationship between Merlin and MyHR.
IHG Careers currently tells colleagues with MyHR access to sign into MyHR and select the Current Jobs icon when searching for internal opportunities. Colleagues who do not have MyHR access are directed to use IHG’s external careers search and identify themselves as current employees during the application.
That establishes an important system boundary:
If your task is applying for an internal IHG role, current official instructions point to MyHR, not to a generic Merlin-login page.
Learning: IHG University and myLearning
IHG’s employee-development ecosystem has its own terminology.
IHG says IHG University is a learning framework available to IHG colleagues and team members at IHG-branded hotels. Its published material describes four learning areas:
- Owner Learning Solutions;
- School of Hotel Management;
- School of Hospitality;
- School of Business Performance.
IHG states that colleagues can access IHG University through IHG People Tools and specific learning portals such as IHG myLearning.
Current IHG job postings also continue to reference the IHG Merlin MyLearning platform, demonstrating that Merlin terminology still appears in the learning environment.
Franchised Hotels Make the System More Complicated
Not everyone working at an IHG-branded hotel is employed by the same legal entity.
IHG operates a large hotel system containing franchised, managed and other hotel relationships. Its employee-room-benefit language explicitly recognizes employees working at qualifying owned, managed and franchised hotels.
IHG University likewise describes resources for colleagues in both franchised and managed hotels.
As a result, two people working under the same hotel brand may not necessarily have identical HR processes, local benefits or system permissions.
This matters when troubleshooting access.
IHG Procurement Is Yet Another Merlin Context
Searchers can also encounter “IHG Merlin” through IHG Procurement.
The current procurement environment distinguishes between:
- hotel-user login;
- supplier login.
That environment serves a different job from MyHR, employee travel or myLearning.
A supplier searching for procurement access and a hotel employee searching for an internal career opportunity should not land on the same explanatory page.
