Searching for IHG Merlin can create the impression that every IHG employee function lives behind a single portal.
Current IHG documentation shows a more complicated picture.
The company still actively uses Merlin terminology. Its Employee Room Benefit Programme refers to colleagues’ Merlin IDs, its internal-career material tells colleagues to visit Merlin for certain referral information, current job postings reference the IHG Merlin MyLearning platform, and the IHG Procurement site still carries Merlin branding.
At the same time, IHG directs important colleague tasks to separately named systems such as MyHR, IHG One Rewards, IHG University and myLearning.
The useful way to understand Merlin is therefore as part of a wider colleague and hotel technology ecosystem.
Merlin ID: An IHG Colleague-Side Identifier
One of the clearest current official references to Merlin appears in IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme.
IHG says colleagues can access their employee room benefit after their IHG One Rewards membership has been linked with their Merlin ID, or after the relevant benefit has been activated through Loyalty Connect.
This establishes that Merlin ID remains meaningful within at least some current colleague workflows.
It does not establish that Merlin credentials should be used in every IHG system.
IHG One Rewards Is a Separate Account
The employee-room-benefit workflow also shows why system boundaries matter.
The colleague has:
- an employment or colleague-side relationship involving Merlin;
- a separate IHG One Rewards membership used in the consumer booking ecosystem.
IHG explicitly tells eligible colleagues to begin with their One Rewards membership number and describes linking it with their Merlin identity.
Those accounts should not be treated as synonyms.
MyHR Owns Current Internal-Job Search
IHG Careers provides a strong example of a colleague task that current documentation assigns elsewhere.
For internal opportunities, IHG says colleagues with MyHR access should sign into MyHR and select Current Jobs. Colleagues without MyHR access should apply using the external careers system and identify themselves as current IHG employees.
Therefore:
Internal career search ≠ generic Merlin login task.
This distinction helps prevent users from repeatedly trying the wrong environment.
Learning Has Its Own Architecture
IHG University is the company’s broader learning framework.
IHG says colleagues and team members at IHG-branded hotels automatically have access to IHG University and can reach it through IHG People Tools as well as specific learning portals such as IHG myLearning.
IHG’s current recruitment materials also contain references to the IHG Merlin MyLearning platform.
This suggests that Merlin terminology and myLearning can coexist within the learning ecosystem.
Rather than inventing a single hierarchy that IHG has not publicly documented, the safe conclusion is that colleagues should follow current IHG learning links provided for their role or property.
Employee Travel Adds More Systems
IHG’s employee travel ecosystem introduces several more names:
- Merlin ID;
- IHG One Rewards;
- Loyalty Connect;
- Employee Room Benefit Programme;
- IHG One Pass.
These names describe different components or programmes.
For example, the Employee Room Benefit page describes linking a One Rewards number with a Merlin ID, while the current IHG One Pass page describes colleague-related travel privileges accessed through IHG.com or the One Rewards app.
Users should therefore begin with the programme they actually intend to use.
Procurement Is Not an Employee HR Portal
IHG Procurement is another environment that can surface for “IHG Merlin” searches.
Its current login interface distinguishes Hotel User Login from Supplier Login.
A procurement supplier trying to manage a sourcing relationship is performing a fundamentally different job from an IHG colleague applying to an internal role.
The pages should not be conflated merely because both include Merlin branding.
Why Different Colleagues May See Different Systems
IHG’s hotel system includes different employment and operating relationships.
Its Employee Room Benefit Programme explicitly references qualifying employees working at owned, managed and franchised IHG-system hotels.
IHG University likewise provides learning resources to colleagues at both franchised and managed hotels.
This means access can depend on:
- employer relationship;
- hotel;
- role;
- region;
- programme eligibility;
- manager provisioning;
- system permissions.
A search result cannot reliably determine all of those factors for an individual colleague.
A Better System Map
Think of the ecosystem by job:
Colleague identity / certain hotel-system workflows
Merlin terminology and Merlin ID.
Internal employment opportunities
MyHR or IHG Careers.
Learning and development
IHG University, People Tools and myLearning.
Employee hotel-rate eligibility
Merlin ID + IHG One Rewards + programme activation.
Travel booking
IHG.com / IHG One Rewards environment.
Procurement
IHG Procurement hotel-user or supplier environment.
This model is more useful than asking which URL is “the IHG employee portal.”
Safe Access Practices
Never enter colleague credentials merely because a webpage includes “IHG” or “Merlin” in its title.
Prefer:
- links supplied by your employer;
- official IHG domains;
- existing verified bookmarks;
- company-provided support routes.
An independent guide should never request your password or MFA code.
